HOMECOMING AND BEYONDI just completed my 29th
UCO Homecoming. I love homecoming but it always leaves me exhausted. This year was no
different. The students were great to work on the float and be involved. Homecoming
was early and the beginning of the semester was full. So perhaps I am a little more exhausted than usual. I hope many of you saw the float.
It was fun to build and to be part of. The theme was Central Rewind. Our floats
theme was: Central Rewind / Back to Childhood. The swing and slide were so much fun
that the cheerleaders who were behind us joined in on the fun. Our Bible verse was, “Unless you turn
and become as a child you cannot enter the kingdom of Heaven.” I pray it was a witness as well as
entertaining. We really desire to keep the main thing the main thing. Our mission is
to be salt and light to the campus. Certainly everything we do needs to be part of this. I have to tell you I am enjoying this year’s students
immensely. They love the Lord and know how to have fun. The Lord has led some to be
bold in their witness. They are on campus each Wednesday afternoon sharing their faith. There
are three of these students who are very faithful to this witness. We call it E Walk. Pray
that the zeal of these three students will be infectious. It is amazing how a few students can define your
ministry and influence so many. The BCM is known on campus as an organization that evangelizes.
These three students have defined an organization that includes several hundred students. What would
happen if half of our students evangelized every Wednesday? While some have a heart for our campus others have a heart for the world. This
Friday we will have an Inner City Plunge. It is a discovery trip to learn about the various ministries
in urban OKC. It will be fun and enlightening. We leave at 6pm from the BCM.

We Remember: 9/11Everyone remembers where they were when they heard what was happening that fateful day. We were horrified by the
destruction and loss of life. Do you remember the resolve and unity our nation had? The Sunday after 9/11 our
churches were filled. What has changed in our nation since 9/11? Besides air travel and security at public functions
it doesn't seem much. Our churches are once again below capacity. Most people have adjusted to the inconvenience
of a post 9/11 world. What will have to happen to get our attention? What could turn us back to the faith of our
fathers? Islam has not suffered any loss of image in our nation. In fact they have made gains. Islam
is a preferred and protected religion among the politically correct. It seems they have privileges that Christians do
not. Planes flew into buildings that day in the name of Islam. Has their tactic worked? Today 1000's
will mourn because of their misplaced zeal. We mourn with them. We remember. How do we react to what we
remember? Does it make us sad, angry, or resentful? Do we fall on our knees to seek God or do we blame Him for
allowing it to happen? It is my prayer that our remembering will make our hearts soft toward God not hard. He is
God and we aren't. Trust Him. He is our only hope.
